South Louisiana is a working landscape of swamp, marsh, and bayou where ground access is often impossible and elevation change is measured in inches — conditions that make airborne LiDAR less a convenience than a necessity. Cypress-tupelo canopy and year-round vegetation demand high point densities for reliable ground returns, subsidence makes fresh surface data perishable, and the June-through-November hurricane season shapes every project calendar. North of the coastal zone, pine uplands and Red River farmland fly far more conventionally.
New Orleans carries the state’s Class B, with Class C at Baton Rouge and Lafayette and heavy helicopter traffic serving offshore energy along the coast. Barksdale Air Force Base dominates the airspace picture at Shreveport, and Fort Johnson’s training areas affect west-central parishes.

Most Louisiana projects fall between $2,500 and $15,000 depending on acreage, vegetation, deliverables, and whether certified survey control is required.
