Corridor mapping LiDAR captures long-linear assets — pipelines, transmission and distribution lines, roadways, rail, canals, levees — as a continuous, classified point cloud along the route. It's the survey problem conventional methods handle worst: walking crews through miles of brush is slow and hazardous, and manned-aircraft LiDAR carries mobilization costs that only pencil out on the largest programs. Drone capture splits the difference — engineering-grade data at corridor scale, flown by pilots already near each segment.

Typical drivers: route selection and preliminary design for new pipelines or circuits, as-built verification, vegetation-encroachment analysis on energized lines, hydraulic modeling along drainage corridors, and roadway or rail rehabilitation design where the corridor's true cross-sections matter.

How We Fly and Process a Corridor

The route is broken into flight blocks planned around airspace, access, and terrain, with overlap between blocks so strip alignment can be verified at every seam. Ground control points and independent checkpoints are observed with RTK/PPK GNSS at intervals along the full route — not just the endpoints — so accuracy doesn't drift with distance. Sensor-equipped UAVs fly each block at parameters chosen for the target: higher pulse density and tighter line spacing where conductors and structures must be resolved, standard terrain parameters where bare earth is the product.

In processing, we classify beyond the basics: ground, vegetation, and structures, plus conductor and wire classes for utility work. That classification is what turns a point cloud into engineering answers — catenary models, clearance measurements, danger-tree identification, and cross-sections at your station interval.

Corridor Mapping Questions

How is a corridor project priced?

Corridors are quoted per linear mile rather than per acre, driven by corridor width, terrain, vegetation, access, and airspace along the route. Because our pilots are local to each segment, long routes can be split among crews without travel mobilization stacking up. Send a KML of the centerline and we quote the route within 24 hours.

Can drone LiDAR capture wires and conductors?

Yes — capturing thin features is a core strength of LiDAR and a known weakness of photogrammetry. High pulse rates and appropriate flight parameters return points directly on conductors, shield wire, and structures, which we classify separately from ground and vegetation so engineers can model catenary and measure clearances.

Can you map vegetation encroachment along transmission lines?

Classified corridor data supports vegetation-management analysis directly: with ground, conductor, and vegetation classes separated, we report vegetation within your specified clearance envelope of the conductors. Utilities use these deliverables in NERC FAC-003 vegetation-management programs and routine trim planning.

How do you keep accuracy consistent over a long route?

Do you handle airspace approvals along the route?
