Maine is roughly ninety percent forest — the highest share of any state — dominated by spruce-fir stands that never open a leaf-off window, so northern timberland flights lean on point density rather than season for ground returns. The hardwood-mixed southern counties do reward late-fall capture, the famously jagged rocky coast demands careful flight-line planning around coves and islands, and deep snowpack effectively closes interior sites from December into April.

Airspace

Class C airspace covers Portland and Bangor, and that is nearly the whole controlled-airspace story: the vast majority of Maine, including virtually all of the northern timberlands, is uncontrolled Class G where Part 107 flights need no authorization.
