The Cascades split Oregon into a wet western third — where dense Douglas-fir canopy is a genuine test of LiDAR penetration and October-through-May rain compresses flight windows — and a dry eastern high desert whose sage cover scans beautifully year-round. Airspace

Portland International's Class C is the state's busiest controlled airspace, with tower-controlled fields at Eugene, Salem, and Medford handling the other Willamette Valley and southern metros. East of the mountains, vast stretches of uncontrolled airspace make large-area rural capture straightforward.

What's driving demand

Data centers bookend the state: the Hillsboro Silicon Forest cluster on the west side and the Prineville campuses in Crook County to the east both keep expanding. Timberland management, post-fire terrain assessment, and Bend-area development fill out a workload that swings between industrial precision and big-acreage forestry.
